Updated: Triad wins Tip-Off Classic, LeVan tops 1,000 points – Saturday basketball

Several area basketball teams were in action on Saturday as the 2017-2018 season gains steam.

High School:

The Triad varsity boys ousted North Union 57-50 to win the Benjamin Logan Tip-Off Classic.

Triad senior Hadley LeVan had a career-high 31 points, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for his career. He now has 1,004 career points.

Triad is 2-0 and North Union drops to 1-1.

Triad’s next game is Tuesday at Graham.

The Benjamin Logan varsity boys defeated Riverside 57-38 in the consolation game.

Cole Jones scored 11 points and Bryce Schmidt added 10.

For Riverside, John Zumberger had 9 points and Wyatt Auflick tossed in 8 points.

The Indian Lake varsity boys beat visiting Wapakoneta 43-39.

Collin Coburn had 19 points.

The JV Lakers fell 58-26.

Chris Murphy had 6 points. 

Calvary Christian ran past host Mechanicsburg 68-42.

Andrew Reinhard had 17 points.

Daniel Wilt and Tyler Reinhard each scored 14 points.

Josh Kilgore added 12 points.

The Spartans (3-0) will play at Bowling Green Christian Academy on Friday.

The JV Spartans lost 49-29.

The Kenton varsity girls beat Benjamin Logan 59-52.

BL's Nikki Current led with 18 points.

The JV Lady Raiders fell 60-32.

Kennedy Parker had 19 points.

BL varsity is now 2-2 (0-0 CBC).

The Lady Raiders will host Springfield on Monday.

The West Liberty-Salem varsity girls outlasted Miami East 62-55 in OT.

Kelsey Day had 21 points.

Taylor Lauck scored 13 and Gabby Hollar tallied 12 points.

Jr. High:

Riverside’s 7th and 8th grade boys teams took on Benjamin Logan Saturday morning.

The 7th grade Pirates beat the Raiders 36-21.

Walker Whitaker was the leading scorer with 21 points, while Skyler Hudson chipped in 5.

The 7th grade Pirates are now 1-2 on the season.

For Benjamin Logan, Kam Allen had 6 points and 6 steals.

Yale Scheiderer tossed in 4 points.

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade team defeated Riverside 42-25.

The Raiders were led by Brady Burrey with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Breshon Jacobs and Alex Rodenberger each added 6 points. Rodenberger also contributed 7 steals.

Zach Armbruster led the Pirates with 9 points while Andrew Thacker scored 6 and Deven Frilling pitched in 5.

The 8th grade falls to 1-2 on the season.

Both Riverside teams are back in action Monday at Hardin Northern for a league matchup.

The Raiders travel to Bellefontaine Monday.

The Indian Lake 8th grade boys edged Jackson Center 25-23.

Trenton Fulkerson had 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Caleb Wurster recorded 7 points and 3 steals.

The Indian Lake 7th grade boys fell to Jackson Center 40-16.

Gavin Lones had 4 points.

The Benjamin Logan 7th grade girls evened their record at 1-1 with a 24-17 win over Riverside Saturday morning.

Elliott Bailey scored 8 points, Rhea Harner and Jillian Plikerd each scored 5, Kiley Daniels recorded 4 points, and Kenzee Congrove added 2.

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade girls jumped out to an 18-0 1st quarter lead at Riverside and cruised to a 49-28 victory.

Jennifer Naragon led all scorers with 21 points by going 11/12 from the foul line. Kaycee Cook added 9, Kayla Horney scored 5, and Kerry Copenhaver, Leeah Valentine, and Haleigh Brentlinger each scored 4 points. Maddy Plikerd added 2 to round out the scoring.

The Raiders are now 1-1 on the year.

Both Benjamin Logan teams will host Bellefontaine on Monday evening.
