Zanesfield Petanque Club member Shannon Hodge was in Kaihua, China recently competing in the Women's Petanque World Championships.
In total, 43 nations were in attendance.
Hodge, Shirley Jones (North Carolina), and Gina Dejoy (Florida) won the right to represent the USA after winning a Federation of Petanque USA National tournament in 2016.
Day One they lost to Germany and Sweden. Day Two they fell to Russia and New Caledonia and received a bye in the fifth game. This result took them out of the main tournament and put them into the Nations Cup.
In the Nations Cup, Team USA beat the Czech Republic 11-10, then Indonesia 10-6 to put them in the Final 16. They lost to Malaysia 13-5 who ended up making the final of the Nations Cup.
France beat Madagascar in the final to become the 2017 Women's World Champions.
