Davis earns academic honor in college soccer

A former high school soccer standout has earned an academic honor.

Connor Davis, a sophomore on the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team, has been named a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Davis maintains a 3.93 grade point average in Biology (Pre-Med) currently taking physics, organic chemistry, and genetics with 9 hours of lab course work per week this year.

He started all 19 contests for the Cougars this season, playing the forward and midfield positions. Davis finished second on MVNU in total points with 12, contributing four goals and four assists on the season.

In his freshman season with the Cougars, Davis finished with 19 points, recording 7 goals and 5 assists, while earning the highest percentage (.605) of shots on goal in the league.

“Time and time again he proves to be dangerous on set-pieces, and he also added two game-winning goals that came in wins against Shawnee State and Marian,” said head coach Zach Ganzberg.

With the All-District distinction, Davis will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first, second, and third-team All-America honorees will be announced on December 4th.

Davis graduated from Indian Lake in 2016.

CoSIDA, or the College Sports Information Directors of America, began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions.

The award is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the field or court of play. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have reached sophomore status academically with one full year at the current institution of enrollment and must have participated in over half of the team's competitions during the current season.
