William R. “Bill” Church

William R. “Bill” Church, III, 68, of West Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 28, 1949 in Rose City, MI, he was the son of William R. and Ardath (Sheldon) Church II. His mother survives in Alford, FL and he was preceded in death by his father and his sisters, Renee Church and Julianne Green.

A 1967 graduate of Rose City High School, he played football and basketball and excelled at track, qualifying for the state track meet. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969-1973. He had a strong work ethic and was a wonderful provider for his family, retiring from Inventory Control at Honda in 2014 where he had worked for 34 years. A man of deep faith, he instilled his love of God in his children. He supported and helped with starting the Christian television station in Bellefontaine, was a faithful member of Christ Our King Church in Bellefontaine and never missed a chance to evangelize with someone. Bill enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, traveling after retiring and was always up for a good discussion or debate but he truly cherished his time spent with his family, especially attending any activity of his children and grandchildren. Even though he lived many years in Ohio, he never lost his love for the beauty of upper Michigan.

On April 26, 1975 at the First Friends Church in Bellefontaine, he married his wife of 42 years, Donna (Henry) and she survives in West Mansfield. Also surviving are his children, Lindy (Matt) Hazel, Kevin (Mia) Church, Christopher (Helen) Church, Lisa (Collin) Ricks all of Bellefontaine and Kellie (Jacob) Miller of Lima; 15 Grandchildren; sisters, Nancy (Carl) Balla of Lake Port, MI, Peggy (Bill) Johnson of Alford, FL, Josie Oleksik of Osceola, FL and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at The Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, 624 Twp. Rd. 55, Bellefontaine. Pastor Robin Ricks will officiate and burial will follow at North Greenfield Cemetery where Military Rites will be observed by the Air Force Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Vineyard. Arrangements are being handled by the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel, West Mansfield.
