City man sent to prison for drug-related death

Eric GeorgeA city man has been sentenced for his role in a drug-related death from earlier this year.

Eric George, 32, of 540 Eastern Avenue, was sentenced to four years in prison by Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge William Goslee Monday afternoon.

On October 25th, George pleaded guilty to attempted corrupting another person with drugs (F3), deception to obtain a dangerous drug (F5), trafficking in drugs (F5), and illegal use of a food stamp benefit (F5).

He faced a maximum sentence of six years.

On May 9th, George along with his wife and father were indicted following two incidents.

The Logan County Grand Jury indicted Eric George on two counts of trafficking in drugs (F4, F5) and single counts of corrupting another person with drugs (F2), deception to obtain a dangerous drug (F5), and illegal use of a food stamp benefit (F5).

His wife, Amanda George, 32, was indicted for complicity to intimidation (F3).

His father, David George, 53, of 501 Gunntown Road, Lot 40, Bellefontaine, was indicted for intimidation (F3).

On May 2nd, Eric George was arrested on a felony drug charge downtown following a controlled drug buy.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that George sold eight Valium pills earlier in the day.

Officers located George at Ohio Driving School, 112 East Court Avenue, around five p.m.

George, who was an instructor at the driving school, was charged with a fifth-degree felony count of trafficking in drugs, then lodged in the Logan County Jail.

There was no evidence he sold drugs to any of the teenagers that he had contact with through his job.

George was also under investigation for the death of Katie Turner, 42, of Bellefontaine.

During that investigation, police learned that George was selling prescription drugs.

The corrupting another person with drugs charge stems from Turner's death on January 25th.

Hours after Eric was arrested, his father threatened whom he believed was an informant in the controlled buy.

Amanda George helped get the information regarding the controlled buy.

In September, Amanda and David George each pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of complicity to intimidate a witness.

On November 16th, David was sentenced to 30 days in the Logan County Jail.

On November 20th, Amanda received a suspended sentence of 180 days in jail.
