Wednesday, August 9 2017 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond
to signs of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders in your
community.
There will be two upcoming opportunities for individuals to become certified
in Mental Health First Aid in August.
On Wednesday, August 9 a class in Youth Mental Health First Aid (for adults
who work with youth) will be offered.
On Tuesday, August 22, a class in Mental Health First Aid will be offered
Both classes will be from 8-5:30 p.m. at the Ohio State University Extension
Office Spark Lab, 1021 West Lima Street, Kenton Ohio.
Cost for each class is $35 and includes workbook, course materials, a 3 year
certification, and lunch and snacks.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members,
caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human
services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age
12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in
crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who
regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental
health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and
teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and
non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance
use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders
(including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

The adult Mental Health First Aid course is appropriate for anyone 18 years
and older who wants to learn how to help a person who may be experiencing a
mental health related crisis or problem. Topics covered include anxiety,
depression, psychosis, and addictions.

Jami Dellifield and Dyesha Darby will be teaching the Youth MHFA class. Jami
Dellifield and Pastor Jason Manns will be the instructors for the MHFA
class.
To register, please contact the Ohio State University Extension Office at
